Confused by what should I told them about the most interesting thing in my boring marriage and personal life, my phone vibrated. I took it out of my purse. The three of them smiled meaningfully after they read the name on the screen. They quickly shooed me away to answer the call, which I did joyfully. I went to the corridor near the toilet. There was quieter than the most part of the restaurant.
“Hello,” I greeted.
“Hi, Baby. I interrupted your time with your friends, didn’t I?” Hendra said in a regretful tone. I smiled as I heard his voice.
“It’s okay. You saved me, anyway.” I sighed heavily to make it even more dramatic.
“Yeah? Is it your turn to tell your achievement this past week?” He teased. I chuckled as I said yes, it was. “Okay. I’ll be quick. I’m in Bangkok, waiting for the next transit. I’ll be home tonight.”
“Should I do anything for you at home before you arrive?” I asked quietly. He usually called to tell me about his activity without asking me to do anything for him. Hendra was a very understanding husband who never demanded or expected something I did not want to do.
“No. I’ll eat in the plane. I just want to hold my wife and sleep beside her tonight.” He said happily.
“Then those are what you’ll get tonight.” I said, I was so relieved.
“Go back to your friends. Send my regards for all of them.” He said quickly. I smiled, even though he could not see it.
“I’ll let them know.” I promised him.
“Miss you, baby.” He sincerely said. I closed my eyes as I felt his love surrounded me just by hearing his voice.
“Miss you, too.” I said softly.
“Love you. Bye.” He knew. Of course, he knew. We had been married for five years. He never gave some time for me to reply his I-love-you words.
“Bye.” Then the phone went silent.
l looked at my phone regretfully. Until this second, I could not say the same words toward my husband. I did not feel the same. I did not want to feel it. He wanted to marry me, he got what he wanted. He wanted my body, he already got it. But my heart, I would never give it to him. And he had to accept it since I completely gave it to another man.
Getting married was every man and woman dreamed as they reached the right time. Living well was everyone’s desire. When both of it was combined, some people would assumed that he or she who had those life happily and contentedly. The thing I heard, saw, and felt from everyone that knew me or because I was Hendra’s wife. But what people saw from the outside, that was not I felt in our marriage or my prosperous life.
I wanted to go but I could not. Wanted to run away from our house and my husband, there was a invisible thread that held me so tight with this marriage. Both of my hands and feet were free to do anything or go anywhere. I would always come back home, though. Came back to my husband.
No one knew what exactly happened in our marriage. Even those three women I called best friends did not know about my private life with my husband. All they knew was what Hendra showed in public. However, no one knew what I felt inside, except Dad and Mom.
When I was back to our table, my friends smiled playfully toward me. The looks I always got every time Hendra called when I was having lunch with them. I sat confidently and smiled, ready to hear their questions and teasing. Between us, I was the one who often got a call from my husband. That was why I could not run away from their curiosities.
“Hendra said hi.” I reported.
“He’s really a sweet man.” Darla smiled.
“I’m jealous with young couples because of their affection toward each other. But your husband’s different. You’ve been married for more than five years and he still that care for you. Not even once when we’re having lunch together, he’s not calling you. Well, yes, it’s just a small talk, but it means a lot. At least for me. It’s showing that he’s thinking about you.” Qiana said in jealousy. I was blushing. Lindsey nodded her agreement.
“Yep. My husband only did that when we were in a relationship. The second we were married, he thought that he didn’t need to treat me romantically. Every time I complained about it, he just said that he was busy. And that was for me and kids.” Lindsey sighed heavily.
“You’ll get used to it.” Darla chuckled. “The most important thing is husband doesn’t forget to give me what I need. There’re money and unlimited credit card. The other things are merely bonuses.”
We laughed in unison. Every time we talked about credit card, we could not forget about our first encounter. Qiana and I smiled sheepishly as we remembered how panic we were at that time. Fortunately, I had Lindsey by my side, and Darla by Qiana’s side. We were lucky that that incident brought us together.
“When are you planning to have a child? You’ve been together for long and haven’t had any children. Aren’t you lonely you only have maids at home?” Lindsey teased as she winked wickedly. I smiled.
“We’ve been trying. Maybe it’s not the perfect time. We’re young, there’s a lot of time to try again.” I shrugged.
“Don’t let anything distract you. In a short time, you’ll pass your opportunity. You both need to go to the doctor for checking up and ask his opinion. Lately, having a child is not a hard thing any longer. Just a little effort and you’ll have one.” Lindsey said.
“I believe that your husband wants a child to be his heir. Who’ll take over his name and company if not your children?” Qiana added.
“Don’t sweat it. You don’t have to listen to them. You’re right. You’re young and you have a long way to try again. My suggestion, enjoy your time together. When you have children, they’ll take over all your time. You won’t have a minute to be together.” Darla suggested.
After the serious conversation done, we were laughing at Darla’s joke. She was good at it. The time passed and we did not realize we had been there for two hours. Since we had to go back to our activities, we paid the bill, walked to the exit, and said goodbye before we got into our cars.
On the way home, I stopped by a florist. The woman in there greeted me kindly. I take a deep breath to enjoy the nice flower scent inside. I looked around. There were roses in different colors, lily, dahlia, and other flowers. I smiled as I saw some sunflowers at the corner. I bought some of them and put them in the backseat.
Liando and Abdi quickly came to the front door when I arrived. I asked them to put the flowers in the media room. I went upstairs to put my purse in the bedroom and then went back downstairs to the media room. Yuyun put huge vases next to coffee table and a special scissor on the table. There was some water in the vase. I cut the branch and cleaned the flower before put them together in the vase. Liando and Abdi were helping me to put the vase in the corner of every room in my order.
We drank tea and enjoyed some snacks in the sunroom. I asked them about their job, then the list for everything I needed to buy. The next day was the laundry and groceries day, I needed to go both places. Our helpers in the house had their own job description. I did not give them any additional job out of their duties. Besides, I loved to go shopping and walked around the supermarket. That was why I always did it by myself.
